Day One in Rome

Well here we are, our first full day in Rome!  It is everything I have hoped for.  We have walked ourselves silly.  Never getting to our destination in a straight line because we keep veering off the path to look at something else down a narrow road, but usually ending up where we wanted to be.  Today, after breakfast of the most devine capuccino ever, along with a chocolate corenetto, sinfully yummy, we headed over to Isola Tiberna to see the church San Bartolomeo and see the River Tiber from a different aspect.  Then back over to Trastevere where a friend of a friend of a friend said we must see.  It is nice, full of shops, bars, restaurants etc.  We had lunch at a cute neighborhood one that was packed with locals.  The food was very good.  We both had a two courses and dessert, a carafe of wine and a bottle of water, less than 40€, a bargain for Rome I think.  Then a quick stop at the shop around the corner for coffee, milk, yogurt and museli for our breakfasts.

Back on the road, Piazza Navona, (which was mostly empty because of a strike happening,we think.
Largo di Torre Argentina and the cat sanctuary, the most amazing Pantheon, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, then Sant'Ignazio, a church with the most beautiful ceiling, it is painted in perspective, so as you look at it, the characters get smaller, giving the ceiling a far greater height than it really is.  So far I think this is may most favorite church, and we only went into about eight of them today.  Even if you aren't into the religiousness of the churches, the art and architecture certainly makes you stand there in awe.

Where else did we go, see and do?  Much more I'm sure, every road takes us to another piazza, church, sight to see.  You'll see.
