Back to the South Island

We departed Wellington this afternoon after a morning cable car ride to the Wellington Botanical Gardens. We meandered through the gardens and Allie was in heaven to see, smell and caress all the fragrant flowers and the like.  Oddly enough, the gardens end at the old city cemetery which was cut into two by a highway back in the 60's and it is really quite strange to see.

The ferry ride was uneventful, yet scenic once we go to the Marlborough Sounds. Then back to RIG, which was happily unscathed by our absence, and then off to Nelson.  I opted to take the 'shorter' route, which distance wise was quite small, however in nerve wrackingness, it was a doozy!  Narrow winding switchback lanes up and down steep mountains made for a white knuckle ride. Never to be done again. However, we arrived in Nelson where we plan to spend the day tomorrow, enjoying the sights.
