The Marlborough Wine and Food Festival

We decided to treat ourselves to tickets to the Marlborough Wine and Food Festival that was held today.  We bought our tickets a few days ago, ensuring our entry.  Really we had no idea what to expect except that last year the event hosted some 3000 people so we wanted to make sure that we would be able to attend.  Wine, food, in a beautiful setting on a perfect summer day, what more can one ask for.

We drove down to Blenheim, via Spring Creek, arriving at the site just as the gates were opening.  I would say that every wine producer in the Marlborough district was there, flogging their wines.  And some mighty fine wines they were.  The Marlborough district is known for the Sav blancs, but they also are beginning to turn out a very nice pinot noir.  Lots of venders selling regional food, clams, oysters, beef and lamb.  I will say that I sampled many a vineyard's wares.  I also learned that the area has besides wine some stone fruits, apple, pulses (that is beans like lentils, black eyes peas, garbanzo etc.) pine nuts (who knew) olive oil and honey.  I imagine it is very similar to what Napa Valley was like, or is like, haven't been so don't know.

Afterwards we stopped by the art gallery that we have tried to stop at a few times.  Glad we persevered. Absolutely amazing paintings, very dimensional.    Enjoy the photos, wish you were here with us enjoying the wine and food.
