Camping in NZ Day One

We are here and so is the rain. After a tiring series of flights and delays, we arrived in Christchurch and were greeted by overcast skies and an occasional shower. We picked up our campervan and headed north to Kaikoura. The van requires a bit of an adjustment as it is longer and taller than any vehicle we own. The leg room is also attrocious so short jaunts are the order of the day. We will get used to it and its quirks, it will just take time.

Last night was incredibly windy and it poured, making us ever so happy we aren't in a tent here at the camp site. Today it is still rainy, although it does stop every now and then, and cold winds will force us to put on many layers. Hey, at least we don't have to shovel it!

Although Kaikoura is famous for its whale watching with sustained winds of 20-25 mph, boating is not in the plans due to wave heights. A giant squid did wash up here and it is the talk of the nation and marine biologists are comeing from all over. As long as I don't have to eat it.

Here's some photos. Enjoy!
