Unlike its far more well known neighbor, Franz Josef Glacier, Fox Glacier is more mellow and has a quieter grandeur. It also has Lake Matheson to set off the beauty of Mt Cook and its adjacent peaks. We were exceedingly fortunate to get a clear morning, which is relatively rare as the westerly winds force the humid ocean atmosphere against the mountains and cause copious clouds and rain. All I can say is this place Rocks! Not that we would want to like here full time as we are two ad a half hours from the nearest significantly sized town in either direction. This afternoon we drove down to Gillespie Beach, which was interesting in its own way, mostly for the various shaped and colored and patterned rocks that made up the beach. As we returned, so did the clouds and mists so now you cannot see the mountains at all. Perhaps they are taking a break from their performance this morning.
I will simply let the images speak for themselves.
