After departing the campground at McLean Falls, we wended our way through the rest of the Catlins, stopping at Matai Falls (which was not nearly as good as McLean Falls), then on to Nugget Point and its iconic lighthouse. I was quite disappointed as the best view is from a privately owned property and thus not accessible to us mere mortals. Still, the terrain is quite impressive and the views were pretty darn good.
Back along the shoreline we drove north to Dunedin. I swear, this must be the largest city in area in all of New Zealand. Nearly twenty miles out from the city center you hit the city boundary. It still takes nearly a half hour to get to the center, and this is without traffic! We will explore Dunedin tomorrow, but today was mostly driving and checking out the adjacent beach in St. Kilda, where our not so great campground will be for the next two nights.
Thankfully, the art museum and the Speights Brewery are open on Sundays (tomorrow).
