After a less than spectacular dawn, we packed up, drove into Queenstown before the tourists descended and had coffee waiting for shops to open. We did tons of window shopping and picked up a couple of essentials like bug spray and headed out of town for Arrowtown. Queenstown just isn't our kind of place, too much "adventure" hype geared toward young people with more money than sense (although we did see one tee shirt that said; "You have to be young and stupid before you are old and wise."
Arrowtown was a letdown for me. It was originally a gold mining hamlet with plenty of charm, but the only charming it is doing now is that of separating gullible tourists from their money. High priced tiny shops all selling similar items at outrageous prices.
So, it was on the road toward…. We were stumped, so I finally decided to head toward Dunedin and see if that was as good as it is purported to be. Well, on the way we stopped at where the two Kiwi guys invented bunny-jumping and watched a few jumpers. Many, many more people watching than jumping, not that I blame them! Then down the road through Cromwell, Alexandra, Roxburgh and finally Miller's Flat (which is so small it might not be on a map outside of New Zealand.
