Milford Sound

We woke up to a chilly morning, mist rising from the streams, and a huge fog bank over Lake TeAnau.  We did a quick shop, we were completely out of food, then we turned north to the great Milford Sound, another two hours away.  We stopped along they way at Eglington Lookout and Mirror Lakes which were really cool.  More like puddles but with the most amazing reflections of the mountain range.  This is the only road access to the Sound, so there was a fair bit of traffic, all stopping at the same sights along the way.  Eventually we arrive at the Homer Tunnel, the scariest damn tunnel I have ever been through.  It is 1.2k down, then as soon as you emerge you begin the typical switchback roads with shear drops to the bottom.

We check in at the Milford Lodge, the only place for camping, waiting for the fog to lift, have a bite to eat and rest up for our Nature Cruise on the Sound.  This had been highly to us by a couple from Toronto that we met at Fox Glacier.  We will let the pictures do the talking, but you must keep in mind that there is no way that they will give you the immensity or the scale that we experienced.  Much like the Grand Canyon, you have to see it to get it.  It was an amazing journey, rain, mist, wind, dolphins, waterfalls and even a cruise ship.
